Djonggi W. Situmeang, MD FAAFP

Doctor of Medicine

I, Djonggi Situmeang (pronounced C-2-May-ung, with the accent on the May), am not a local but have been practicing medicine in Mount Pleasant since 1996. I feel very blessed to be practicing in Mount Pleasant and have to say that you, the community that is, have been very gracious to my family and I. In return, I am committed to providing the best quality medical care for you in hopes that you will feel well cared for and dealt with in a compassionate way.

There are some odd things you may want to know about me. First, I really do not like medicines. I don’t like to take them, and I really am not that fond of prescribing them. I believe that so much of healthcare reform is wrapped up in how we, as a healthcare team, can educate and encourage you, as a responsible citizen, to improve your own healthy lifestyle. It takes considerable effort on both our parts but trust me, it is well worth it in the long run.

That being said, if the need arises, I feel competent to provide a whole array of medical services such as annual exams, well-child exams, comprehensive medical care involving newborns through eldercare, various office-based procedures such as removal of lesions of the skin, no scalpel vasectomy, joint injections, and female procedures such as colposcopy (a procedure to follow up abnormal Pap smears). Of course, as a Family Practitioner, I feel qualified to meet all of your acute and chronic needs for care of diseases of the skin and its contents.

I do not provide Obstetrical care, but I would be happy to assume care of your newborn child upon his/her delivery.

For all of those that want to know about credentials, here goes:
1. I was born in Bali.
2. My family came to the USA when I was 3 and I subsequently became a citizen.
3. I speak fluent, unaccented English.
4. I received my BS in Chemistry from Saint Mary’s University, Winona, MN.
5. I earned my Doctor of Medicine degree from Mayo School of Medicine in Rochester, MN.
6. I completed my residency in Family Medicine at North Iowa Mercy Hospital in Mason City, IA.
7. I am Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
My outside interests are varied, but I especially love sharing my faith, living with my family and trying to lead them and younger men spiritually, working with wood and road cycling.
